Pinot Noir arrived in Australia in 1831 and was soon planted in the Hunter Valley, later being planted with more success in Victoria. At this class we discuss the exceptional aroma, finesse, intensity and length of this light- to medium-bodied wine.

Any hardcore wine geek will tell you that one of the biggest wine stories of the past few years is the exploding popularity of Spanish varietals. In this class we focus on the fantastic Tempranillo, the premium red wine grape variety of Rioja.

Come and discover the wonders of Italy; try some Sangiovese, Barolo and Nebbiolo and see what all the fuss is about. Italy has been producing these wines plus many more for hundreds of years, come and see why they’re so proud of what they do.

Shiraz—also known as Syrah—is Australia’s most grown grape. With flavours of spice, cherry, plum and mint, after decades of cellaring Shiraz gains characters of earth and leather. In this class we scratch the surface of this classic red varietal.

A huge category to cover in one class, but we’ll do our best. We look at Gewurtztraminer, Chablis and Sancerre. French wine makers tend to let the terroir speak for itself in their wines; see how different old world white wine is to new world Australian and New Zealand examples.

Pinot Gris is a mutation of Pinot Noir, and just as unstable as its parent grape. Pinot Grigio is from northern Italy and is made in a typical Italian fashion. Pinot Gris is a good wine varietal if you are looking for something different, with flavours of apple, pear, honeysuckle, mineral and citrus.
